Fold & Form Origami STEM Kit
Fold & Form Origami STEM Kit
Where chemistry meets culture, and every sheet of paper tells a 2,000-year-old story.
The Fold & Form Paper Making & Origami STEM Kit is a complete, everything-included activity kit that brings together chemistry, physics, geometry, and Asian paper heritage in a single hands-on experience.
Students make a real sheet of paper from plant fibers and water — the same process Chinese court official Cai Lun developed in 105 CE — then dye it with natural pigments used in Japanese and Korean paper art for over a thousand years. Then they fold. Explorer-level students build a Masu box (枡), the traditional Japanese measuring vessel. Navigator-level students tackle the origami crane (鶴), and discover the Pythagorean theorem embedded in every fold.
This kit is part of the TP Designs STEM + Culture series — because representation in STEM starts with what we build, what we celebrate, and whose stories we tell.
What's Included
Every kit includes:
• Natural fiber scraps
• Mesh papermaking screen
• Fold-flat plastic basin
• Liquid starch packet
• Sponge pressing pad
• Blotting felt sheets
• Pre-cut origami squares
• Origami folding instruction set (2 designs)
• Dye pigment
• Student worksheet
• AAPI Culture Card
• Resealable poly bag
Note: No additional materials needed. A waterproof surface is recommended for the papermaking activity.
Who It's For
This kit was built for parents, after-school programs, enrichment providers, and educators who want to go beyond the worksheet — programs that believe every student deserves STEM that reflects who they are.
Ideal for:
• After-school and out-of-school time (OST)
